How to lose browsers and alienate your readers – dinosaur status in 3… 2… 1…

and the award for the most annoying website of the day goes to…. the Reporter Herald (I won’t even link them) … why you ask??

I was merely opening a link in Facebook to read the latest news about the High Park Fire…

Firefox instantly blocked one popup – a pop-over ad appeared and blocked my view the content I was trying to read, immediately that was gone, I got a netflix pop-under ad appear briefly, then disappear under the browser page – where I know it is lurking … and then there is a “Today’s Promotion” toolbar on the bottom of the page… and the page is festooned with ads… oh brother…

well done newspaper folks – you priced yourselves into almost extinction in the print world, and you’re running right over the cliff in the web world as well…

While I wasn’t able to show you the pop-under, and the multi-media ad was here and gone while serving the singular purpose of annoying the living heck out of me, and all I could tell you was that it emanated from that carrier ad on the right – and dragged it’s sorry behind back there when it was done annoying me… here is a screen-shot of the offending “newspaper” website…

Loveland Reporter Herald - popups, pop-unders, ads up the ying-yang....

Loveland Reporter Herald - popups, pop-unders, ads up the ying-yang....

I have to say – visiting this website left me feeling smacked around the face and DIRTY – that’s how I feel on sites full of pop-crap… the pop-under and popups are never more than ads of the worst possible kind in my opinion…

As websites go – this has to be one of the worst I have come across that wasn’t an outright “info-mercial” site – you know the kind of thing – trying to sell you an ebook on how to make a million dollars before breakfast… c’mon please you “journalists” – go and kick the “business” team in the nuts for this abomination… if you lose your web readers – you’re all out of work
